Table

Depending on the question, some questions are best presented and answered with the help of a table. The table can give you a better overview when answering questions and can help you reduce the size of the form.

In SMART-TRIAL you can choose between two types of tables:

  • Static Table
  • Dynamic Table

Please consider that queries cannot be created on individual values in the table. A query can only be created on the entire table and you will therefore need to define the row and column of relevance, each time you have to make a query on a value. The use of a table may, therefore, in some situations not be the most optimal question type to apply.

Create a Static table question in SMART-TRIAL:

  1. Chose Table in Question Type.
  2. Fill out the Question Text.
    Table1

  3. Now, chose which Column Type you want in each column e.g. date, number or free text. For extra columns in the table, press Add column
  4. Type Column Text you can also choose to add Export Label to each column or allow decimal numbers.
    Table2

  5. When you have designed the columns for your table, choose your Row Text, and Export Label for your row, for extra rows in the table, press + Add row
    Table3

  6. You can choose to add Show rules, Validation rules or/and Advanced Options to customise the question.
  7. Press Save Form or add another question or information text.

Don’t hesitate to think outside of the box when it comes to designing your table! You can e.g. use the Row to ask questions instead of only in the Question Text! This will give a lot more opportunities when designing the table!

For quick removal of content in the entire row, use Clear.

Create a Dynamic table question in SMART-TRIAL:

Dynamic tables allow you to modify the number of data entry possibilities during data collection, by adding additional rows.

  1. Chose Table in Question Type.
  2. Fill out the Question Text.
  3. Click Table Options.
    Table5

  4. Enable dynamic table and specify the maximum number of allowed rows.
    Table6

  5. Now, chose which Column Type you want in each column e.g. date, number, or free text. Type in the Column Text, you can also choose to add Export Label to each column or allow decimals for number columns. For extra columns in the table, press Add column.
    Table7

  6. You can choose to add Show rules, Validation rules, or/and Advanced Options to customise the question.
  7. Press Save Form or add another question or information text.

The type of table can be changed in Amendment mode. If a Static Table is changed to a Dynamic Table the number of rows will be converted to the maximum number of rows, while amending a Dynamic Table to a Static Table, the preselected maximum number of rows will be the number of rows in the Static Table.

The layout of the dynamic table in SMART-TRIAL:

The dynamic table will appear as follows in SMART-TRIAL allowing you to add more rows.

Table8

To add additional rows to the dynamic table, click "+ ADD ROW".

Table9

For quick removal of content in the entire row, use Clear.

The dynamic table allows you to add and delete the rows as needed. This is done by clicking "Remove" next to the row of interest.

Deletion of a row is traceable in the audit and changelog.
